I am officially anchoring for WUFT’s News In 90!
After spending my college career working up to this achievement, I am humbled and honored to make this announcement.
It’s not just college that has lead to my dream coming true. I remember being in middle school and using “News Broadcaster” as the subject of my dream job project. Since I realized it was what I wanted for my future, every life choice I’ve made has been on the path to that end goal. From acting to speech and debate classes, I’ve worked hard for this. I’ve also done my research and know the pros and cons of what I’m getting myself into. I’m willing to accept any challenges or risks that go along with the job that I am passionate about pursuing.

Life in the CJC

Here’s the inside scoop about being a student in the UF College of Journalism and Communications. The College is also called the Center for Media Innovation and Research. As a Telecommunications major on the News track, I mostly work in the Innovation News Center, or INC. I work from the INC as a multimedia journalist for WUFT News. I started as a writer, then became a radio reporter and producer, moved up to photographer and producer, and now I am a reporter on WUFT’s First at Five on Thursdays from 9:30 to 6 and a cut-in producer for News in 90 on Fridays from 1:30 to 4:30. I’ve anchored too, to fill in for the main anchor. That’s it for now, contact me if there’s more you want to know and I will answer your questions in a follow-up post!


The Tipping Point

You are most likely reading my blog because you are interested in the topic, in blogging, or in me– unless you came across it by accident. thetippingpoint
If you are one of the viewers that is interested in blogging or me, I suggest you read the book, if you haven’t already: “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference” by Malcom Gladwell.

Gladwell refers to concepts that become very popular very fast, “epidemics,” because of how they go viral. He gives anecdotal examples in order to explain his concept and uses cultural and scientific research to back them up. He also discusses real epidemics to reveal the similarities. This way of thinking makes it a lot easier to understand how the same kind of thing happens with a trend, video, etc.

According to Gladwell “the tipping point” occurs when “an epidemic is jolted out of equilibrium” which he calls, “The Law of the Few”; because “something has happened” which he calls “The Stickiness Factor”; or because some change has occurred in one or more areas, an agent he refers to as “The Power of Context.”

I find it fascinating that Gladwell is able to tie together the economic and social aspects of phenomena in a way that makes it seem like he solved the equation of such a seemly complex occurrence, to the point where it all comes together and makes sense in our every-day lives and involvement in technology.

If you are interested in the psychology and sociology of fads, this book puts it into a compelling and fresh perspective that really makes you think, even without the strategies suggested in my last book review! Before reading this you may think that there is either a strict and intense marketing strategy that is the key to making something go viral, or you may think it is random, however, with a well-writen combination of facts and events, Gladwell makes a capturing case about the way this really happens.

Society is ever changing but patterns are always noticeable and Gladwell finds some interesting ones along with mind blowing paradigm shifts about society in regards to social power. Even if the societal or economic aspects of this topic don’t impress you, anyone with an appreciation for fashion, art, or politics would enjoy this read because of how much his theories influence those areas in which trends and fads are essential to how they function.

Gladwell’s analysis is very cool and concise, to the point, but also flourishing with creativity and wisdom. I feel genuinely informed and intrigued after reading his arguments in a way that may have changed my way of thinking and imagination for good and for the better. Gladwell’s passion rubbed off on me a little in the process and I have developed a newfound interest in human behavior and an optimistic hope for mankind and our future… like we aren’t a complete mess, and we’ve at least got it somewhat figured out.

Feed Your Brain With NEWS

You may be thinking that this is going to be about how much health news can help your body and mind. While that is very true and I encourage it, the purpose of this post is actually to give you some insight into getting involved with what I’m involved in- Telecommunications.

I told you about my experience, but learning more about other people in my major at my school can give you better insight into different paths that can be taken by people in a similar position but going in other directions.

To read more about being a multimedia reporter and the possibilities the profession offers, meet Darling Hill. Her blog, The Adventures of Working in Media, includes current event updates and overall advice about life in the news atmosphere. She is one of the most driven students I know, has experience in almost every aspect of media, and is graduating soon, so follow her from her in-school experience with news to the real world.

Speaking of the real world, another one of my girlfriends is graduating soon and her blog is about just that. 22 Sitting on 22 Cents by Rebecca Adams provides an entertaining and realistic perspective on what it is like to be a college student who is still unsure about the future. She lets you into her fears of growing up but also shares inspirational experiences that keep her going through it all.

Now that you’ve seen what it is like to take a news or entertainment route from a telecommunications major, I’ll give you a glance into the mind of someone that took the sports route. Sean McKenna reports about sports in his blog, NFL Draft 2016. He posts about topics such as the NFL, his news experience, and his sports updates from the WUFT newsroom.

Find Out About Fitness

Eating well is important, but staying fit is what will take you that extra step in reaching your #bodygoals 100 percent. Luckily, I have some fitness blogger friends that can give you the resources you need in order to achieve ultimate healthy living!

Don’t have the time or money for a personal trainer or gym membership? Megan Trepper‘s blog, Florida Fitness will be useful for you. She highlights online workouts from websites like YouTube and Pinterest that are quick and easy to access from your home, for free! She also has some very helpful healthy eating posts that will help you with that 75 percent.

If you appreciate woman power as much as I do, be sure to check out Alexis Geffin‘s blog, Look Good Lift GoodHer posts include great motivation for beautiful, strong women like her- don’t miss out on A Girl’s Guide to Guns. And of course it is difficult to be fit without maintaining a controlled diet, so read about Alexis’s health junkie advice while you’re at it.

To talk the talk, you’ve gotta walk the walk, and Aggie Buedo has her act down pat. Her blog, Food Fun Fitness Foreveris one to follow if you want fitness advice from an athlete with the body to prove it. She is a toned and tanned dazzler with beauty and brains, making a point to mention other important factors that contribute to overall mind and body maintenance like meditation and stretching.

After a good look at these blogs, take a good look at your body and soon you will see a positive change.


I’ve told you about my personal life in regards to how it has shaped my interest in nutrition, but I would like to take you deeper into my past and my life now, nutrition aside.

I have Norwegian and Irish in my blood from my dad’s side, and French form my mom’s. I was born in Hollywood, Florida and moved to Weston, Florida at age 5. I performed in dance recitals from preschool to 8th grade, always participated in a variety of sports including tennis, basketball, soccer, and horseback riding, and modeled for an agency called World of Kids located in South Beach, Miami since I was about 4 years old until the end of middle school when I decided to focus more on education. I took drama and advanced drama in middle school, performed as ‘Glinda the Good Witch’ in The Wizard of Oz and ‘Carrie’ in Dear Edwina, and competed as a junior thespian at a regional level. My freshman year of high school I became a thespian, joined the drama club, and got the part as ‘Young Ti Moune’ in Once on This Island at my school. The next year, I took American Musical Theater and Debate classes. That year I had to choose between theater and debate because they both required such a huge commitment. I participated in a minor role in a few school plays and competed in a few local debate tournaments that year, and finally chose debate. The event I competed in for the rest of high school was student congress, and I developed a passion for politics as a result.

This background is what I believe led me to where I am now. I attend the University of Florida and Major in Telecommunications, with a specialization in News and an outside concentration in Political Science. I am a multimedia reporter for WUFT News and get to be behind the camera, in front of the camera, and constantly involved in sports, entertainment, politics, and health. I plan to attend law school after graduation and then pursue a career as a legal analyst, investigative, or political reporter/anchor for a news station.

MWOTM: Dad’s Oatmeal

As Spring Break 2k16 approaches, I can not stop thinking about going home to Dad’s cooking. He is a talented chef, and one dish anyone that sleeps over looks forward to in the morning is his homemade oatmeal.

The last MWOTM seemed hard to top, until I kept scrolling and was reminded of what makes me wake up on the right side of the bread – with not just similar but even more nutritional value than most bread.

Give it up for the February’s Mouth Water of the Month: Dad’s oatmeal. Well deserved, Dad.

  • 1.5 cups rolled oats (old fashioned or multi-grain)
  • 1/2 cup granola
  • 3.5 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 cup apple, cored and 1/2″ diced
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp honey

Know What Bread You’re Buying

One fun-fact that I have noticed, living on a college campus in a sorority house of girls constantly finding ways to stay fit, is that a lot of ladies don’t know the truth behind how misleading bread labels can be. If you’re anything like some of the people I’ve come across, you may think you’re eating healthier bread because it has the word “grain” in the title, or you may think you shouldn’t be eating bread at all because it will make you fat. Both of these are common misconceptions that I would like to clear up.

  1. Some bread can be good for you. Whole wheat and whole grain bread contain grains and oats that are a great contribution to your diet. However,  don’t mistake multi-grain bread or differently worded titles for the same thing. It could easily be white bread with some seeds on the outside for all you know. The key word is “whole“, but there are also exceptions. For example, I highly recommend Ezekiel bread— it’s nutritious and delicious! Capture2
  2. Healthy bread won’t make you fat. First off, I strongly believe that anything is okay in moderation. That being said, if you’re eating the right kinds of bread there is no need to restrict it from your diet. As you can see below from the nutrition facts on Google, it contains barely any fat (if any it is from oils that have health benefits) and is a source of protein, fiber, and vitamins as well.

Soul Food

A huge part of staying healthy is being happy. For me, one of the best ways to stay happy, besides eating, is by making other people happy.
